Is Genio accessible?

Our vision is to make Genio accessible to as many people as possible.

This is an ongoing process, and this article covers where we are at right now.

We're designing for you, so we always want to know how you think Genio can be more accessible.

To share your feedback, or get more information, please email us on support@genio.co, or use the Get in touch link via the Genio main menu.

Is Genio WCAG compliant?

Genio’s products and services are partially conformant with WCAG 2.1 level AA and Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act (USA). Partially conformant means that some aspects of the content don't fully comply with the accessibility standard. For more on our commitment to accessibility, please see our Accessibility Statement https://genio.co/accessibility-statement/

Screen reader support

Genio is regularly tested with screen readers to ensure compatibility.

We are committed to making our web and mobile apps as accessible as possible and conduct comprehensive testing to achieve a high degree of compatibility with screen readers such as TalkBack, VoiceOver, and JAWS.

Our aim is to ensure screen reader users have a comparable experience of Genio to visual users.

This is an ongoing process, and occasionally some issues slip past us in testing.

Please note that Genio uses single character shortcuts, which may conflict with screen reader shortcuts. You can disable these by opening your Account Menu, selecting Preferences and turning off the Keyboard Shortcuts option.

If you do notice any issues or have any suggestions for improvement then we would love to hear from you, we are always trying to improve Genio for everybody.

Changing the appearance of Genio

Color and contrast

Genio strives to ensure that all text elements meet WCAG 2 Level AA standards.

Genio does not currently include customizable color or contrast settings.

You can change the appearance of Genio by installing free web extensions.

Font

Genio uses a print-disability-friendly sans serif font: Nunito Sans.

Genio does not include in-built options to change the font.

You can change the appearance of text in Genio using web extensions which change the default font for your browser, such as Open Dyslexic for Chrome* [last tested 17/10/2019]

Text Size

Text within Genio has been designed to be responsive to a user's browser settings. Font size is defined in relative units ( rem), and will reflect the user's chosen display settings.

The Genio interface supports the "Very Large" font size in Chrome.

For more information on changing the default font size in the Chrome browser, see: https://support.google.com/chrome/answer/96810?*

Page Zoom

Genio is usable at a page zoom of 200%.

Support for keyboard-only access

Genio has been designed with keyboard accessibility in mind, and is fully usable without mouse input.

Navigation

You can navigate between different parts of Genio without using a mouse.

Keyboard focus is indicated with a visible outline:

Keyboard Shortcuts

You can navigate through and interact with the Genio interface using common keyboard interactions (e.g. Tab to navigate and Enter to select). You can also undo actions using Ctrl / Command Z and Shift Ctrl / Command Z.
We've tried to ensure that navigation order is logical, and keyboard focus is indicated with a visible outline.

Genio also supports keyboard-only annotation workflows.
