Is Genio accessible?

Our vision is to make Genio accessible to as many people as possible.

This is an ongoing process, and this article covers where we are at right now.

We're designing for you, so we always want to know how you think Genio can be more accessible.

To share your feedback, or get more information, please email us on support@genio.co, or use the Get in touch link via the Genio main menu.

Is Genio WCAG compliant?

Genio Notes and Genio Present have achieved full WCAG 2.1 and 2.2 Level AA compliance, verified by third-party auditor Level Access as of April 2026.

  • Compliance Scope: Genio Notes (Web) and Genio Present are fully compliant.
  • Verification: Rigorous testing conducted by Level Access to ensure equitable user experiences and ACR (VPAT) availability.

Screen reader support

Genio is regularly tested with screen readers to ensure compatibility.

We are committed to making our web and mobile apps as accessible as possible and conduct comprehensive testing to achieve a high degree of compatibility with screen readers such as TalkBack, VoiceOver, and JAWS.

Our aim is to ensure screen reader users have a comparable experience of Genio to visual users.

This is an ongoing process, and occasionally some issues slip past us in testing.

Please note that Genio uses single character shortcuts, which may conflict with screen reader shortcuts. You can disable through the burger menu (top right)  ->  opening your Account Menu, selecting Preferences and turning off the Keyboard Shortcuts option.

If you do notice any issues or have any suggestions for improvement then we would love to hear from you, we are always trying to improve Genio for everybody.

Changing the appearance of Genio

Color and contrast

Genio strives to ensure that all text elements meet WCAG 2.2 Level AA standards, including sufficient colour contrast (a ratio of at least 4.5:1 for normal text and 3:1 for large text).

Genio includes a dark mode toggle and a choice of theme colours, which you can access from the settings in the navigation bar. Genio does not currently include a dedicated high-contrast mode or other custom contrast settings.

If you need further adjustments to colour or contrast, you can change the appearance of Genio by installing a free web browser extension.

Font

Genio uses highly legible sans-serif fonts chosen for readability: Nunito Sans for body text and Poppins for headings.

Genio does not include built-in options to change the font or font size.

You can change the appearance of text in Genio using a web browser extension that overrides your browser's default font, such as Open Dyslexic for Chrome (last checked June 2026).

Text Size

Text within Genio is designed to respond to your browser's settings. Font sizes are defined in relative units (rem), so they scale with the default font size you choose in your browser.

The Genio interface supports Chrome's "Very Large" font size setting.

For more information on changing the default font size in Chrome, see: https://support.google.com/chrome/answer/96810

Page Zoom

Genio is usable at a page zoom of 400%. At this level, content reflows to fit the screen so you can read it without scrolling horizontally.

You can zoom in or out in most browsers using Ctrl and + / – (use Cmd on a Mac), and reset zoom with Ctrl/Cmd + 0. Page zoom works independently of your browser's font-size setting, so you can combine both if you need larger text.

Support for keyboard-only access

Genio is designed with keyboard accessibility in mind, so you can navigate and interact with the interface using a keyboard rather than a mouse.

You can move between different parts of Genio using the keyboard. We've aimed to keep the navigation order logical, and the element that currently has keyboard focus is shown with a visible outline.

Keyboard Shortcuts

You can navigate and interact using common keyboard actions — for example, Tab to move between elements and Enter to select. You can also undo and redo actions:

Undo: Ctrl + Z (Windows) / Cmd + Z (Mac)

Redo: Ctrl + Y (Windows) / Cmd + Shift + Z (Mac)

Keyboard shortcuts are turned on by default and can be switched on or off in Settings.

Our accessibility commitments:

Accessibility is a core design principle at Genio. We consider it from the start when developing new features and functionality.

Our development team includes designated Accessibility Champions, who work across design, development and testing to ensure our decisions account for all our users.

We're committed to working with external consultants, testers and organisations for continuous feedback on Genio's accessibility, including digital accessibility specialists Level Access.
